The Ins And Outs Of Owning A Wireless Notebook
The demand for notebook computers is increasing day by day. This is because of the outstanding features offered by them. Portability and convenience of using them anytime and anywhere are some of the remarkable features of notebook computers. Though a desktop PC has more processing capabilities, notebooks are outdoing them in the current market because of the convenience they offer.
Notebooks come with a wide variety of configurations that can suit almost every mobile computer users needs. Wireless internet connectivity is also one of the latest features available in notebooks. These wireless features work on particular Operating System platforms. So we need to check in advance whether that particular wireless feature is applicable to the available OS or not.
Wireless technology in notebooks borrowed from the technological developments in cell phones. Wireless communication has now become the order of the day is the most sought after feature in a new laptop/notebook. This is because this feature offers us convenience of wireless connectivity to a local area network or the internet.
Notebook computers are portable and highly versatile computers. The users find them comfortable to carry around. And with the integration of wireless communication and data transfer technology in them they have become the most preferred choice of almost every computer user. There are three main data standards to transfer data followed by these wireless notebooks. For example 802.11b is one of those three standards and is also known as Wireless Fidelity Wi-Fi. Such a standard hold the capability of transferring data at rate of 11Mega bits per second or more with 2.4 GHz radio spectrum. This is the bandwidth required for Internet and file transfers. The second data standard is the 802.11a standard, uses 5GHz spectrum. Thus it offers 8 channels for larger data transfers and a rate of 54 Mbps. The last one is the 802.11 g standard which exhibits features of both 802.11 b and 802.11 a standards. It uses 2.4 GHz spectrum and a rate of 54 Mbps. Some notebooks use all the three standards. Many notebooks come with the Bluetooth technology module that offers wireless communication between electronic devices. The next technology associated with wireless network connection is 3G Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO). The technology is all set to revolutionize how we view World Wide Web. 3G has a data transfer speed of 400 to 700 kbps. However using the wireless notebook or a wireless set up in hotels or airports are of a major security concern. It is very easy for a person with right detector equipments to detect the wireless signals and infiltrate the transmission. But address filtering technology like MAC and WEP has been put in place to minimize the risk.
